I just got my GoPro Hero 4 and wanted to try the Night Timelapse mode. I have the exposure time set to 30 seconds and the interval between images set to 2 minutes. My pictures have a few stars on them, but nothing special. I checked and I was pointing the camera towards the milky way - which was visible.
However the battery life on the newer Hero 4 is about the same so there isn't a drastic step-up in battery life time when comparing the Hero 3+ Silver to its successors. Besides these two issues the camera is amazing and fun to use. The learning curve is not high at all and the GoPro app makes using the camera wirelessly a breeze.
